MIDDLETOWN: A new "Middletown to Brooklyn Parkway" from Garden State Parkway to the Belt Parkway in New York City to be built through Middletown.
This new Parkway, boasting 3 lanes in each direction, will serve as a fast link for Monmouth County commuters to reach Brooklyn and the JFK International Airport faster. No more going around through Staten Island. It is estimated to save travelers 30 minutes off their travel. It will vastly help the economy, as interstate travel will have never been so simple.
Eminent domain will be used to pave the way for this new highway. It is proposed as an elevated highway, as to not disrupt local traffic, however a few hundred families will need to relocate. The Port Authority has proposed a new skyscraper on the Atlantic Highlands shore to temporarily house the residents.
The speed limit will be 50 miles per hour, however for an additional toll you can use the 110 miles per hour express lane. This lane will get you from Northern Middletown to Brooklyn in under 5 minutes.
Opposition includes the Seastreak ferry, who says this will make them go out of business. However, while that may be true, this new highway will be much nicer. In addition the cyclists say we shall tear down the plans and build bike lanes and trains, and ban private car travel. We refuse that request as personal freedom is important.
While a bridge from Sandy Hook directly to New York would be much easier, due to the lack of controlled access highways (no traffic lights) for the traffic to go to and from, it has to connect to the nearest one, the Garden State Parkway, or else Sea Bright would be standstill traffic, with only one lane. If the State Route 36 corridor had been an actual highway like the Garden State, without travelers having to stop for red lights, then it would be possible to connect through there, but since it isn't this is the best solution.
One Middletown resident says that while this will skyrocket their property value, it will change the face of the town, and thus it shall be built as a tunnel instead. However, summer residents argue it shall be a highway on land, so that they can enjoy the sun instead of sitting in a dark tunnel. Now a tunnel is more expensive, but it would avoid the need to pay for the multi million dollar homes being torn down.
There will be a Wawa Island build near the middle of the causeway, so that people can stop by for gasoline. Since it is in the middle of the state line, half of the gas station will be staffed with attendants and the other half you will have to fill it yourself.
The parkway is set to be complete by the end of 2025. Restrictions include Passenger Cars Only and no Subarus allowed to travel on it.
